Midges: Whilst Kielder hosts a good deal of adorable wildlife, be aware that the midge population of Kielder are now fully awake and are in residence. Be prepared! The campsite and the local shop sell Smidge, fly spray, headnets and citroenella candles. Long trousers, long sleeves when pitching will assist. We recommend arriving in the day, late arrivals will be on their own....apart from a few million midgy friends who will be extremely eager to meet you.
If you have a campervan/motorhome/touring caravan, bringing a plug in fan assists to keep the midges at bay. They cannot fly in a breeze. [Bring two]
Note to all: pray for a breeze!
The work on our access road bridge has been completed. You can approach Kielder from the South once again.
We no longer allow open fires on site. This includes fire-bowls and is non negotiable. We have BBQ stands dotted around the site which are perfect for disposable BBQ’s or putting your own charcoal in. Camping gas stoves, trangias and Cob cookers are fine.
